This paper proposes a theoretical-methodological articulation for design processes that seek to enhance the participation of people affected by the project. In order to do this, it presents a theoretical review of Strategic Design, Community Centered Design and Management by Mandalas, and describes how such inputs were used in a codesign process carried out for a Master's research aimed at social innovation within rare diseases patients associations. Finally, both empirical results and theoretical reflections are presented, which reinforce the need to align the theme of participation in design processes with methodologies and tools committed to the subjects' autonomy and to the construction of democratic spaces.
