This paper has as its objective presents the origins and the role of ergonomics in the design process. We intend
to make explicit the concepts of ergodesign and usability, based in important authors and to present some
precursors – professionals, researchers and professors – as Henry Dreyfuss, in the United States and Sérgio
Penna Kehl, in Brasil. This way we desire to contribute to spread ergonomics into design activities.
