The resignification of the public space of Porto Alegre from the ephemeral appropriation of the city

Abstract

Understanding both the vitality of the city from its transformation processes and the construction of an identity from civil society actions and constituents of memory values, the article's approach focuses on recent ephemeral events of public space appropriation carried out in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The article, in addition to addressing theappropriation of contemporary city understood as an act of dwelling and constructor of place, presents a reflection about the meaning of ephemeral appropriation of events of public spaces of Porto Alegre.

Author Biographies

Roberta Krahe Edelweiss, Dra., University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS), Porto Alegre.

She holds a degree in Architecture and Urbanism from the University Center Ritter dos Reis - UNIRITTER (2000) and PhD in Architectural Projects from the Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona - Polytechnic University of Catalonia - ETSAB / UPC (2008). She currently works at the University of Vale dos Sinos - UNISINOS, where she teaches the Professional Master in Architecture and Urbanism, Editor in Chief of Architectural Design and Member of the Structuring Teaching Core of the Architecture and Urbanism Course. Visiting Professor of the Faculty of Architecture of the Corporación Universidad de la Costa - CUC. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Architects of Brazil - Department of Rio Grande do Sul (IAB RS) in the position of Director of Communication. She is the editorial coordinator of Espaço IAB RS magazine and a member of the Editorial Board of the Petra magazines (Izabela Hendrix Methodist Institute) and PRUMO (PUC-Rio).
