Abstract

Th is article analyzes the Rio Art Museum (MAR), from the dialogues its architecture establishes with the history of the preexisting buildings and their constituent parts. It also deals with the relations between the buildings and the urban environment, the landscape and the city as a whole. Designed by the offi ce Bernardes & Jacobsen and inaugurated in 2013 within the scope of the Porto Maravilha Project, the museum was born in-serted in one of the most signifi cant historical-cultural areas of the city. Th ese intense and obligatory dialogues with the urban and built heritage insert the new museum in the extensive roll of Brazilian cultural equipment housed in buildings of recognized historical value. It is about the intensity of these dialogues that the following text deals with.
