Abstract

Our society is governed by the excess of images, timelessness, consumerism and some sort of cultural capitalism. The architecture is impacted by this reality when starring the vision as a kind of dictatorship of the eye, which produces exuberant buildings that don’t dialogue with the local populations and neither consider the characteristics of the place where they will be built, their materials and tectonics, resulting in a “global style” architecture. Among the architects who confront this type of architecture is the Swiss Peter Zumthor, when discussing the concept of atmosphere as a practice for good architecture. In this same narrative, authors such as Juhani Pallasmaa and Christian Norberg-Schulz propose the reflection on the relation of the contemporary man with the space, the atmosphere and the notion of place.

Key-words: Atmosphere; Space; Perception.
