Abstract

To refuse a relatively general idea that innovation implies doing again, in architecture, engineering, education, construction, it is necessary to create foundations and opportunities to recover and rehabilitate Portuguese cities. Pre-existence must be faced as a design matter, field of intervention on which the architect can work – maintaining the formal, compositional and constructive coherence of the building – and ensuring the integrity of its structures to be maintained. The reinterpretation must be done in a critical and incisive way, accepting without fear the stylistic, historical or linguistic that may arise from it.
