Abstract

MoBio 1.0 modular compost bin was developed for the practice of decentralized composting in domestic and institutional environments in a simplified, practical, quick, clean, and compact manner, incorporating the preferences of potential user groups in its project. This paper presents the Usability Evaluation of such a compost bin, as well as the results obtained considering the premises of interaction design and the fulfillment of user needs and expectations. The applied methodology utilized empirical and analytical methods: Usability Testing with volunteer users and Heuristic Evaluation with experts, based on criteria suggested by Soares (2021). The combination of methods allowed for the identification that usability issues were highly related to equipment safety, reliability, effectiveness, comfort, and ease of use, primarily focusing on the collector funnel module, assembly instability, operational problems, and production costs. These results will be used for future improvements through conceiving alternatives for solving the issues and redesigning the project.
