Abstract

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) (2005), in 2025 the elderly population of Brazil will be 30 million people. This will represent a doubling of the number of elderly in almost 13% of the estimated population. the text incorporates the urban mobility and accessibility subjects, characteristics and requirements for the physical appropriation of urban space, by pedestrians or public transport users, belong to the elderly population.
